Hello all!I hope those of us unfortunate enough to have exams have survived themunscathed! At any rate, for good or bad, semester1 has passed, and itstime to take a much needed breather and recharge for the comingsemester. -phew-And to catch up with your fellow nusco members, of course, after weeksof no practices! And if you still have no clue who your fellow membersare, then -ahem-, this IS the chance for you to get to know everyone:Genesis camp 2007. (aka music camp)Below is the much awaited camp schedule:

Wednesday (19th Dec)
9-12pm : Briefing and games
12-1.30pm: Lunch

4-7pm: Freetime/ Washup/Dinner

Some of you might be wondering what CFA night is: well, it is essentially an opportunity for the various groups under cfa tointeract, so each group is expected to present 2 simple shortperformances - 1 representative performance of us, and another from acollaboration with another group. As of now, this is all theinformation we have from cfa, so stay tuned!Also, "solo audi" is a time for our members (that is, you reading thismail) to showcase your talents!

Members are expected to put up a smallperformance during this time - but don't let the name intimidate you,Performances in groups are most definately welcomed too. The aim ofthis little event is for the performing experience, as well as tolearn from each other. So don't worry too much about this, just enjoy =)As its name suggests, anniversary lunch is just that - anniversarylunch! Its a yearly affair, and there will be good food!

In addition, CFA has organised the following workshops this year,interested parties do take note:
1. Make-up workshop for music groups10 Dec/Mon , 3-5pm, Dance TheatreWe have invited Ms Norma Darus, a free-lance MediaCorp professionalmakeup artist with 20 years of experience to conduct a workshop forall our music groups! She will be teaching the basic techniques ofstage makeup for musicians as well as some tips for you to look neatand nice under the spot light! It will be a demonstration + hands on!So, bring your make-up kit !
2. Literary Workshop for ALL 18 Dec /Tues, 5-6pm, AuditoriumMr Yong Shu Hoong, CFA Associate and a respected Singapore writer,will share with us regarding literary arts. He will talk about basichistory of literary arts in Singapore and how it has evolved over theyears. You will also be enlightened by the possibilities of combiningliterary with drama, music and even dance to create a fusion art formthat leaves an impact on your audience.That's about it I guess.

Oh yes, participants who have requestedaccommodation are requested to fill in the indemnity form which hasbeen uploaded under yahoo files, file name: IC-Indemnity Form (sample) (3) OLS CAA 100507.doc. Music Camp update

As I've noticed many of you are not being update about the coming music camp on 19-22 Dec2007, as some are not in NUSCO yahoo group, maybe the invitation being categorized as spam or they miss out ur name. I couldn't add you guys in the NUSCO yahoo group, but I'll email the secretary to ask her try to send the invitation again. Below are some postings related to the coming music camp:

Hi,As mentioned just now, the dates for this year's camp are 19 - 22 DEC 2007. Itis COMPULSORY for ALL undergraduates. If you are unable to attend either on allof the days or on some of the days, you have to submit a leave form. Pleasesubmit the leave form to Mengtian either at bearablelightness@gmail.com or u0604421@....For those who can attend, please also let us know if you will be staying oncampus. Email Mengtian regarding that as well. We will confirm the amount thatyou will have to pay, but rest assured that it would not exceed $50 per person.Also, you will have to put up performances, either as solos or mini ensembles,on the last day of camp. Hi,Please let us know if you are attending and if you need us to arrange foraccommodation by 11 November 2007. If you will be staying in halls and do notneed us to arrange for any accommodation, please let us know too.Also, pls bring along the red NUSCO t-shirts for the camp because traditionally,everyone will be wearing that during the anniversary lunch, which will be heldon the last day of the music camp. Besides, you are very very welcome to the camp, even though you have not registered for the camp. The camp will basically have practices (quite long), games (usually evening) and then combine practise (usually at night), based on past year experiences. The comm are still sorting out the detail schedule, and will get you update once the schedule is out.

Outing

Hi,

I guess many of u have finish ur exam..mines will end on 4th Dec. Sectional Update

Hi,

There will be sectional on this Thursday, 6pm at PR3. This will be the LAST sectional for this semester, hope that we'll have full attendance for this week's practice. Between those who have borrow anything from NUSCO, e.g. Cello or score books, please return to the respective person. (Cello return to Property manager Bing Yang or Ziqun, cello books return to me. There will be no practise till exam, and also after exam, as around Decemeber there will be various music camps held by different CFA groups.

The next practise will be on music camp, around December ( to be announced ). Try to join the camp if you're around Singapore, both experienced player and inexperienced player. It is a very good opportunity to improve ur skills, and get to know each other during the camp.

The next practise after music camp will be on the starting week of next semester.

Combine practise update:
This saturday (3rd Nov 2007) will be the last practise for this semester. Next practise after this will be on music camp, no practise in between. For those involved in the Zheng's performance might have practise, depends on the committee's decision.

There will be sectional on this thursday (25Oct2007), venue at PR3.
Inexperienced members come at 6pm
Experienced members come at 7pm
Btw this will most probably be the 2nd last sectional for this semester, there will be two more combined practise on Saturday as well for this semester.

Update on sectional

Hi,

There will be cello/bass sectional on this thursday (11Oct 2007), 6pm, at PR3. Mr.Lee messaged me on Sunday that he is still in overseas now until 11 Oct 2007. He is quite unreachable now as the place has no signal. So I'm not sure he'll be coming on this thursday. I'll show you some videos ( one is a interview with yoyoma and some videos on 彭修文, a famous chinese orchestra composer), which will last abou 40 minutes, we'll have self-practice for the rest of the time. So c ya!!

p.s. Please bring a long ur membership fees ($30 for new member , $20 for 'old' member), for those who haven past it to me.

Hi,

There will be cello/bass sectional tmr (4th Oct),6pm at PR3 (there will not be time segmentation as I'm not sure whether Mr.Lee will be able to come, as he went overseas). So we'll assume that he couldn't come for tmr practice and we'll have self practices during sectional. If Mr.Lee comes tmr, then we'll have sectionals as usual. Between also bring along the NUSCO membership fees tmr, $20 for existing member (joined b4 tis year), $30 ( $20membership fees +$10 for shirt) during nx sectional.So c ya!!

There will be sectional at this thusday, 27Sept2007, 6pm at PR3.Mr.Lee couldn't come for this sectional as he went overseas.So this sectional is just to let the members to come down and practise by its own. For the new players please come down and practise, as we have a practise room n intruments for u to practise. Experience player u might choose not to come down, as Mr.Lee wun be here.

Between, I'll also start collecting the annual membership fees, $20 for existing member(joined NUSCO b4 this year) and $30 for freshies ($20 membership + $10 CO t-shirt)(members who join us this year).Please bring the membership fees during nx sectional ya.

Also,there will be a BBQ at this saturday(29th sept) to 庆中秋, 5pm ( after combine practice, somewhere around CFA). Each attending person will have to pay $5 for the food. Feel free to come down for the BBQ so that u can interact with other members, as well as celebrating zhong1 qiu1.Please let me noe if u wana attend the BBQ, just to confirm the number.

I've post the contacts info in the yahoo group, so as to protect the hp number of the person,as this is a public blog. Btw, I've also informed zhiqun to open the cello/bass cupboard on Tuesday.Therfore the cello/bass cupboard will be open on Tues,Thurs,Sat on the specific timing noted in previous post.For Tuesday, Geraldine will be on duty that day, so u might contact me, or Geraldine if need anything on that day.

Update for today's sectional

me here again..haha..for those players learning cello, Mr.Lee got some homework for nx 2 weeks. Pg 34-38. So u can practise urself when u're free.Oh ya I've forgotten to giv the contacts to u, hmm just send me an email through my yahoo mail if u wanna come down, btw saturday guarantee got somebody there, so maybe just come down straight away.For the combine score we went through 满江红, we already mark finish the fingerings liao( the thumb positioning oso), so maybe just update ur score if u din come today.

Btw for the new players especially, Mr.Lee suggested that try to use the same cello during practise, so maybe u settle among urselves and identify the cello, as every cello has a slight difference in positioning. Btw oso, try to inform me if u cannot come down nx time( Very thanx to those who informed me), just to noe wats going on.

Lastly, haha, nth liao , just to wish u a happy mid-term break, n 中秋节快乐 !!!

p.s. me going back home oso, so wun be there for sat, but will be back for nx thurs sectional

Self-Practise information

Hi,

Some of the players would like to practise cello at CFA other than Thursday sectional.Here are some suggestion, so tat would not bring too much workload to our property manager, as the cupboard is locked, and we need him for the key.

One of the most convenient way is to come down to CFA when there are others sectional,(the property manager will be there), below are the suggested timings:

1. Tuesday, 6pm to 10pm (Dizi,percussion,Ruan/Liuqin,Suona,Yangqin sectionals)
2. Thursday ( u can stay back and practise after 7pm, but might not have enough instruments for everyone)
3. Saturday, 2.30pm to 6pm (Combine practise, again there might not be enough instruments for everyone, priority given for combine practise)

I will give you my contact in next sectional, and contact of the property manager, so that you can call either one of us to confirm that the key is around before coming down. Between it is not very likely to book a room, as those room are used by other sectionals, so maybe can practise in the store ( plz bring ur jackets, very cold inside), or along the corridor.Besides, very sorry for the limited practise timing, as CFA have many other groups, and the property manager have a lot of work already, we shouldn't trouble him more.Hope that u can understand :)

Well, I think our sectional was a good one. For the new players, sorry that our instructor is late, so less time for you to learn, will spare some more time for you if the instrutor is late. Anyway, other than this the sectional is running great.Mr.Lee teaches a lot for both experience and inexperience, he is humourous, isn't it?For the inexperience player, please let me know if you wanna come n practise other than Thursday, so that arrangement can be made. There will be cello/bass sectional on this Thursday, 13Sept2007, at PR3.Please take note for the timing.Due to insufficient instrument, we'll have a time segmentation.Therefore for non-experienced player, please come at 6pm, while the experience player please come at 7pm. For inexperience player, please come to the sectional, according to Mr.Lum(NUSCO condutor) ,the instructor has to teach inexperience player as well as experience player, Mr.Lum has made this clear in combine practise(1st Sept 2007). Also, we already have overwhelming players without cello/bass background, and therefore we will not accept anymore players without background who has not join us in the previous 3 sectionals. Sectional update

Hi,

There will be NO sectional on 16th Aug2007 (thurs).Cello/Bass sectional will resume the week after welcome tea, which is 23thAug2007 (thurs), as usual 6pm at PR3. Seniors plz try to come down on this sectional, as our new cello/bass member will be there and it is a great chance to get to know each other. Hope to c you there!!

Sectional update on 5July2007

Hi,

In 5th July 2007's sectional, only me and Wan Lin went to the sectional,therefore Mr.Lee couldn't go through combine score, indeed he went through some important basic practices.You may like to ignore the following contents if your basics is good enough. Between I only noted down the part for cello here..

I guess most of you (for cello) have the book call "The Art of Cello Playing " by Louis Potter, Jr. These are some of the practice recommended by Mr.Lee in the book:

1. Page 50,51,58 ( Crossing the strings)
2. Page 86-88 (Left Hand Extensions)
3. The Fourth Position (from pg 96)
4. The Second Position (from pg 124)
5. The Third Position (from pg 129)

In addition, it is suggested to ignore the songs in that book while focus on the basic practices (as if u can handle the basics, the song will definitely be no problem, p.s. the songs in the book is not very nice oso, haha). So maybe u would like to practise yourself if u want to. Besides there are also many parts that are not mentioned here, especially those b4 pg 50 and in between pg58 and 86, you might wanna go through those urself, again plz ignored those song behind every practices. Tats it , just a guideline for those who are interested. I've went through some of them, n find it very helpful..

Just a gentle reminder, sectional will resume after the semester start, plz do not come on thursday. Thanks..

I'm thinking of creating a blog for cello/bass sectional.Which serve to update the sectional practise time without the need of sms (there're many members plus sms is not an efficient way)?The reasons of choosing to have a blog as a tool is tat it is simple(no need to log in) while the message can be convey easily.

I will update the sectional time n venue weekly and hope that you guys will come to the website to check for the schedule(I'll update it b4 wednesday,haha,so maybe just check it b4 thursday c whether the sectional is cancelled.If there's change in day i'll sms).While anyone who cannot make it just left a comment on the post or post sth through the chatbox?Is this method better?or yahoo group is more preferable? or continue to use sms?

Besides do you guys want any more things here besides sectional schedule update?like information about concerts/free concerts?
